Dear Miss Smartypants,

Since we're in a recession, I've been looking to save money wherever I can. Do you have any tips on how I can save money whenever I can while changing my habits to being green?

Saving money wherever I can

Dear I think I got it,

My first instinct was to tell you to buy one of those hot water heater jackets whose completely convincing commercials I keep seeing, but it occurred to me that you might not own your own home and therefore have access to a hot water heater. Even so, there are tons of things you can do from hitting up local museums during their free admission hours (v. green if you walk or bike to get there) to making your own cleaning supplies (you'd be surprised what you can do with salt, baking soda, and vinegar) to hanging up your clothes to dry. Here are 10 Ways to Go Green and Save Green, 57 Tips, Tutorials, and Ideas to Go Green and Save a Boatload of Money, and another 10 Ways to Go Green and Save Money at the Same Time. The easiest, cheapest, greenest solution, though, is to think before you buy. If you don't really need something, don't get it. Saves packaging, energy, and your moolah.

Saves your money,

Miss Smartypants
