Best Podcast: On Being, "Roseanne Cash"

Maybe I was always predisposed to enjoy a podcast with Roseanne Cash. Hearing her talk about music and the particular angle of her father's back that she knew best were perhaps to be expected, but "mystery" and playing with an interactive table of elements? Now that's good stuff. 

Best Canadian video: The Joy of Books

This delightful little video has gone viral over the last week. A Toronto bookstore comes alive at night, dancing and moving and, yes, joyful. I still don't have an e-reader, and this video reminds me why.

Best non-Canadian video: PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet

Canadians shouldn't make the mistake of thinking that SOPA won't affect us. Never mind the House's ongoing battle over copyright legislation and the impact that foreign bills may have on it, think about how many US-based websites you rely on each day. Now think about what you would do if they disappeared or were forced to modify so completely as to render them useless to you. So share this around with your American friends and encourage them to speak out. If they can occupy, they can sure as hell write a letter. 

Best Music: The Lumineers, "Ho Hey"

Thanks to Hart of Dixie (yes, I said, "Thanks to Hart of Dixie"), I have recently become obsessed with The Lumineers. YouTube is a lifeline that's keeping me going until their debut album comes out in March.  They remind me of a cross between American folk and a céilidh band with all the foot stomping and banging symbols. Here's the song that got me started.

Their sound makes me think they would be a good choice to write "The Valley Song" and "The Hanging Tree" for The Hunger Games movies. Well, either The Lumineers, Jakob Dylan, or Roseanne Cash.
