Creativity is one thing that does not lack in this new photographic series by local Ottawa photographer Laura Arwen Berg. While many photographers have experimented with ink and water photography techniques, there is something fresh and different in Laura's approach. The photographs are very inspiring, truly beautiful pieces of photographic art. Playing with ink and water, Laura found herself with something very non-traditional but completely natural at the same time. With several of the images, you find your eyes dancing and exploring, curiously engaging the images with a sense of play and freedom.

The image series where the flower is in the water with ink falling down could tells a story all by itself. The ink falls like pollen, a flower coming to life underground, seemingly dead and alone. Then this energy caresses the flower and breathes life into it, gently but powerfully. It has been said that out of any of the elements that water is the most easily manipulated. It's so easy to think of ways water is manipulated, but we often don't think about it that way.

One image that could called a black sand storm in water is simply breathtaking; to see such life being given to something as bland as ink is truly magnificent.

Things that are engaging and dynamic are what cause people to question, and, while this may only be ink and water when it comes down to it, it's very intriguing. The third image is darker. What catches the eye with this one is the opposite feeling conveyed with this compared to the series with the flower. It looks as though the life is being taken from the flower. The ink was just dropped in and took on a life of its own.
While the photographer making these pieces of art, this is also her way of playing and being creative. When asked what inspired these fantastic pieces of art, Laura modestly states that, "A friend and I were playing around one night, and this is what happened." From this one night of "playing around" an incredible series is now in the works and nearly ready to be released for every one's viewing pleasure. I can't wait to see the whole series, and I'm sure neither can you!
