Such Glowing Praise for the HarperCons?

Wow! Nice propaganda for the Harper regime published here. The author of this piece pays no attention to how Harper's abuse of Parliamentary privilege impacts our democracy and our democratic rights. It's as though the writer has no regard for the long-standing traditions inherent in a Parliamentary democracy. The author would, it seems, prefer a corporate state with Harper at the helm.

This ezine is appropriately named, I think. (cult)ure: the cult of Stephen Harper!

Try "Epic Fail," Instead

Uh ... "middle of the road"? Bypassing due process and unduly
controlling the work of independent or arm's-length organizations like
KAIROS, Alternatives and Rights & Democracy to impose a Christian
Zionist Middle East policy doesn't qualify as "hard right"? Don't let
the free vote on gay marriage allow you to forget for a moment that
Harper's crew is a gang of right-wing evangelicals who believe that
humans once coexisted with dinosaurs and who are hungry for
Armageddon.

The "achievements" listed here are pretty thin ... and in some cases,
like the Residential Schools Apology, pretty screwed up. I mean, bail
out churches if you must, but what about reparations for the victims,
to say nothing about getting rid of the Indian Act altogether -
possibly the biggest obstacle against finally bringing to bear some
justice for Aboriginal people? An apology should be only the starting
point.

The author's comments on the Lebanon evacuation are totally absurd.
Why *shouldn't* Canadians be vacationing in Lebanon? Cause Israel
might attack it with impunity, at any moment? Perhaps the government
should have condemned Israel for attacking its sovereign, democratic
neighbour state?

Also, how our presence in Afghanistan is supposed to make that country
"a better place than when we arrived" needs further explanation -
though no such explanation can overlook the fact that our troops'
presence itself on Afghan soil is the best recruitment tool the
Taliban could have hoped for. A few months ago, a Canadian Forces
forces sergeant who recently returned from serving in Afghanistan
spoke with a friend of mine and had this to say about our mission
there: "We're fucked!!" - Edwin Janzen
