Scrap 2007 and Get Ready for a New Taste Approach to 2008

We have ALL done it – we have ALL made overwhelming personal promises to ‘better’ ourselves and our lives each coming new year.  So the question follows - how will 2008 be different?burger

Well, this Gastronomy article on SCRAPS may or may not help shake things up a bit…
But I’m hoping it rubs off on me along the way too…

You can take SCRAPS to include the following (and likely more)…
• The previously-attempted-yet-unsuccessful quitting of something – e.g. you have tried to scrap coffee, pop, chips from your diet…
• The unbalanced-sloppy-thrown-together-unhealthy meal routine – e.g. scraps of whatever may be lying around, whatever is most simple and convenient – no matter how bad it might be for you…
• The sporadic and inconsistent diet plan that was given half-a**ed scrappy effort...

For those of you that fit the gist of this SCRAPPY consumption pattern and lifestyle, keep in mind that we are not scavengers!

In order to make positive change towards improving your health, it is essential to realize that you deserve to treat your body as you would treat a precious newborn or brand new car or treasured new laptop or beloved pet.  Respect it, love it, treat it well, feed it well.

The key factor in this scrapping process is to be realistic.  Resolutions must be based on making a commitment rather than based on wishful thinking.  Time to bridge the gap between intentions and actions; time to scrap the scrappy habits.

One of the tidiest, short-n-sweet reference articles is called “New Year’s Resolutions:  Making Them Work”. This Australian article discusses how to make a ‘SMART’ (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, timely) resolution.  Included are suggested small steps and a reminder not to overtax your willpower.foodguide

Whether you scrap coffee and switch to herbal tea…
Whether you quit smoking cold-turkey or seek help or medical therapy…
Whether you make your lunches instead of buying them…
Whether you start taking proper vitamins and minerals as recommended by your physician…
Whether you start reading food labels to avoid MSG and aspartame…
Whether you scrap pop for more water in your diet…
Whether you ban McDonald’s from your meal options…

These are just a few examples of great goals and steps towards feeling better about yourself and your health.  But remember, don’t wait for this time next year to check in on how you did.  Rejoice in your successes; learn from your misses; then set tougher goals for 2009!
