On January 25, 2009, Kim Manners passed away from lung cancer.

Manners directed over 50 episodes of The X-Files, and, more recently, was a producer/director for Supernatural.

Manners was a workhorse who directed some of The X-Files best and scariest episodes, and he became the go-to-man for mythology episodes after Rob Bowman left the series.  He stuck with The X-Files right through to the end of season nine, and directed the two-part series finale "The Truth" in 2002.

He was well respected by his colleagues, and was loved by X-Philes around the world.  He will be missed.

"I want to believe that the dead are not lost to us ... that they speak to us, as a part of something greater than us.  I want to believe that if we listen to what's speaking, it will give us the power to save ourselves." - Agent Fox Mulder, "The Truth"

This bums me out. There's this bit in The TV Set where David Duchovny's character stops to put on chapstick really intensely for no real reason, and he explained in the commentary track that he did that as a homage to Kim Manners, who used to put on chapstick with "1000 tonnes of pressure." That story always made me like him. You know, that and his kick ass work.
