Sunday

New contemporary interpretations of the female form are explored in The Lounging Soap Opera — an exhibit opening Thursday at the Karsh-Masson Gallery (136 St. Patrick Street). A self-described feminist, artist Maria Lezón says she is committed to “defying society’s narrow view of womanhood” in her work. With humour and a keen eye, Lezón’s colourful art portrays woman in the glamorous and often ridiculous world of television soap opera as a base to explore true femininity. The exhibit runs from December 10 to January 24, 2010. ARTIST TALK (in English): Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. Free of charge.

Any time at all!

TRINITY ART GALLERY
Salon A
Carol Purdy: Communication
This is a (sometimes) humorous look at what has become our means of communication. Open-ended and questioning, the artwork comments on different approaches to modern connections. Many of these new pieces incorporate comment on different forms of connections, written word or visual content. This mixed media artwork is dependent on complex emotions, which can often be evoked from the simplest of forms. The exhibition highlights the crucial role of communication - and miscommunication - in shaping current ideas.

Salon B
Richard Charlebois: Marquetry, The Ancient Art of Wood Inlays - An Exhibition Taking You Beyond Imagination
Richard creates realistic images using the ancient art form of Marquetry. Pyrography is also added to outline fine features. Every piece of wood reveals its natural beauty, demonstrating Richard's appreciation of nature. A masterful selection of exotic woods, with their natural tones and grains, enhances the artist's depiction of lifelike impressions.

On at the Centrepointe Theatre Gallery (101 Centrepointe Drive) from December 4th to January 13th: Ottawa Reflections
This collection of photographs by Hans Blokpoel and Rozemarijn Oudejans shows buildings and sites in Ottawa, focusing on their reflections in nearby water, windows, mirrors and other reflective surfaces. Hans's photos show reflections during the day; Rozemarijn's photos explore night-time reflections. Both artists share a delight in the visual richness of Ottawa that ranges from parkland settings, to iconic buildings, to almost abstract images. The combination of day and night photographs creates a stimulating visual tour of Ottawa.
