Friday One last time: As many may know by now, the Aloha Room on Bank St. is pretty much on its last legs. Deemed to cease being altogether due to management issues and a lack of human traffic, this once hoppin' waterhole will be celebrated one last time. So let's give it one last hurrah and make the best of a fun evening featuring live music, poetry, local art...and whatever. 19+/free admission; Friday, July 10, 2009 at 8:00pm to Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 2:00am; 323 Bank St. (Below Barrymores) Orleans: The Ottawa School of Art presents a lecture by Cuban Printmaker Raciel Suárez González, winner of the 2009 Best Lithography Print (2009 OSA International Juried Print Exhibition).Works will be on display from July 9 to August 30, 2009, OSA Orleans Campus Gallery | Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Blvd. Perth: Tay River Gallery presents "Summer Sizzle," a group show from July 2 - August 30, 2009 celebrating summer with art with sizzle factor. Saturday Vanier: The Centre d'artistes Voix Visuelle remains at the forefront of contemporary art this summer with the opening of two new exhibitions on July 11th, by Andrée Désilets and Valérie Levasseur, artists who share a common theme, that of nature and woodland. Andrée Désilets will be presenting a show entitled Pour la suite des choses, which roughly translates to "in the pursuit of life". Valérie Levasseur's works come to us under the cryptic title: La valeur de ma nature, or "the value of my nature." Meet both artists at the opening reception on Saturday, July 11th at 1 p.m. at Centre d'artistes Voix Visuelle, 81 Beechwood Avenue, in Vanier. The exhibition runs until August 18th, 2009. The gallery's regular hours are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., from Tuesday to Saturday. Westboro: Sleeping Dog Theatre's special revival of the critically acclaimed Portrait of an Unidentified Man, written and performed by Pierre Brault, runs July 9-11 at the Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre. Opening night is already sold out, but there are still tickets available for July 10 and 11. Sunday National Gallery: This Sunday at 1:30 p.m., Jerry Fielder, curator and director of the estate of Yousuf Karsh will give a lecture on Karsh in the auditorium. In conjunction with the "Yousuf Karsh and Edward Steichen: The Art of the Celebrity Portrait." Cost: Adults: $5, seniors and full-time students: $4 and Members: $3. Gallery admission not included. Bank St: Gallery 101 and Fait Maison proudly present the first of four events for the "Not Tonight, Honey" exhibition series: a performance movie night, Satanist Teen Party (With Exorcist Reenactment). Theo Pelmus (with the technical support of Artengine) performs with guest artist Ulysses Castellanos, Sunday, July 12 at 7:30 pm. Admission is free and open to the public. All weekend long, baby! Almonte: Come celebrate Celtic and Ottawa Valley heritage this summer at Almonte's annual Celtfest! This event brings both great traditions and fresh, contemporary stylings of music, song and dance reflective of the unique fusion of Irish, Scottish, Francophone, Polish, German and other cultural influences from the Ottawa and Ottawa Valley region. Pontiac Region, QC: 10 Gates Dancing presents "The Reins," a chance to see the latest dance work by renowned choreographer Tedd Robinson. Join us at The Barn, an enchanting new venue located 1.5 hours from Ottawa in the Pontiac region. "The Reins" is a contemporary dance-theatre piece performed by three outstanding dance artists to live original music, created at and inspired by this unique environment. The Barn is an original outbuilding on 94 acres of land, nestled beside Leslie Lake, and refurbished as a performance venue in 2008 with seating for 48 people.
