Public Enemies

I don't suppose they call it July 2-4 in the US, do they?

Ugh, I am once again at a loss for what to recommend to you. Having seen Public Enemies, I can personally attest that it's pretty but boring. If you're into that (and I believe one of our esteemed film critics is), then it delivers the goods. Also, if you are into hot people looking fly in period costume (which I am), it delivers the goods par excellence

Otherwise, the well-reviewed but boring-looking O'Horten is playing at the Bytowne, along with boring Academy Award-winner Departures and rote Is Anybody There?  I will say that Michael Caine is awesome no matter what, so at least you've got that as entertainment.

Slightly more exciting is the Mayfair's Dusk 'til Dawn movie marathon, which will offer, among others, Chained Heat.  As women-in-prison exploitation movies go, you could do worse.

I'm at such a loss for recommendations that I just checked out what's new on DVD this week. I found one glittering jewel: The Norman Lear Collection. Sure, that stuff's already out there, but, if you are not familiar with Lear's almighty TV oeuvre, now it is the time to catch up.

I'm down to recommending TV on DVD this weekend? Isn't this the time of year when cineplexs are choked with new releases desperate to get out in time for Christmas DVDs sales? Movies, why are you playing me this way?
