Are you a fan of Jackson Rathbone?

Who?

Jasper from Twilight.

?

The one with the really weird hair. Really, extra weird.

Oh, that guy. Sure.

Then you are in for a treat! Two movies have opened in which Rathbone plays a significant role: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which is you've no doubt already seen twice, and The Last Airbender, M. Night Shyamalan's adaptation of the acclaimed TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender (you can see why they had to change the name). Both movies are taking critical hits, Airbender especially, though I can't entirely fathom why. It's good summer fun. Nothing more, but good summer fun is an underrated commodity. I'd rather see Airbender again than A-Team. I will allow that it might not be worth shelling out the extra money for 3D since the third D was added after the fact, and that's never a good sign.

Over at ye olde Bytowne, Sook-Yin Lee's The Year of the Carnivore is opening along with Alejandro Amenábar's Agora, which is about . . . something. I don't know, silent trailers don't give a lot away.

Finally, at the Mayfair, check out the totally unnecessarily hated on Date Night, among other offerings.
