Tuesday Recipe: Semicolon CakePosted by: April on Sep 15, 2009 |

Okay, I'll have an actual Tuesday Recipe for you later, but first you must head over to the National Punctuation Day site and scroll down to learn more about National Punctuation Day Baking Contest. If there are two things I love, they're proper punctuation and baking. As my favourite punctuation mark is a semicolon, that's what I'll bake. The dot is the easy part . . . do I carve the comma out of another shape? I guess so. Also, this day gives me an excuse to figure out what tipsy cake is.

buy a comma cake pan
head over to Fat Daddio's website and buy a comma cake pan.
http://www.fatdaddios.com/comma_set.htm
The comma is a bit wider than a dot would be, so use a 9" round cake pan and an 8" comma cake pan. Fat Daddio makes the comma cake pans in several sizes, so you can do it smaller. And of course, they also make round cake pans in many more sizes, so you can get a 7" round to go with the 6" comma.
Also, flip the comma cake once it's baked, because the pan is backwards. You'll need to use a long serrated knife (bread knife or cake knife) to cut the domed top off the cake first, so that it will stand level.
