SAW Video Workshop - Fiction Screenwriting

Saturday February 5th and Sunday February 6th
10AM - 5PM each day

Limited to 12 participants

This two-day workshop at SAW Video will concentrate on the structural elements of visual storytelling in dramatic films - theatrical, movie-of-the-week, and on-line. Elements to be covered include visual language, scene set-up, sequences, action, dialogue and script format. Students will be expected to bring a story at whatever stage it is currently in.

Tom Shoebridge has taught scriptwriting for over 30 years in which his students have created many award-winning films. In 1981, he founded the Canadian Screen Training Centre which trained over 7,000 students in 600 workshops until it closed in early 2010. Over the years, Tom has personally offered screenwriting workshops across Canada, in South Africa and Bermuda. He is the co-author of Best Canadian Screenplays, the first anthology of its kind.

Introduction to Fine Art at Algonquin College – Now Accepting Applications

The Introduction to Fine Art program offers a one-year college certificate that familiarizes students with career and academic paths related to fine art.  Courses in painting, drawing, sculpture and print making offer hands-on studio experience.  Career workshops and a Business of Art course highlight employment opportunities aligned with fine art and practical strategies to pursue a career as a professional artist.

This one-year certificate is ideal for individuals that:

  • Are seeking hands-on studio experience at the introductory level
  •  Want to explore career and academic paths aligned with fine art, including the following: professional artist, arts administration, gallery programming, municipal arts, collections management, conservation and restoration, art history, gallery director, arts education, arts marketing and development, arts advocacy, graphic design, interior design, and animation
  •  Want to prepare a portfolio for applications to university fine art programs
  • Are curious about the various galleries, municipal arts organizations, and art sectors that operate within major Canadian cities such as Ottawa
  •  Are seeking knowledge about historical and contemporary art in relation to popular culture and identity

Registrations are now being accepted for fall 2010. Space is limited.
