Ha. Good one. For (Cult)ure Magazine, Jest is about playfully looking at the humorous side of things. Modern jesters take all forms, whether it is a brash stand-up comedian, that funny guy you know who always has a humorous take on current events or an adventurous single friend that you live vicariously through. The best thing about jesting is that you can get away with a great deal of criticism, as long as it is veiled in humor. Think Jon Stewart ribbing American politicians to their faces. You see the attraction for (Cult)ure here, we are sure. Jesting is an art form—a healthy amount of respect is needed to set the stage for jabs that won’t get you booed off the stage.
This month, we take our own artful jabs at some of our favourite (Cult)ural institutions. Surely, we Jest.
