AOE Arts Council – Communications Coordinator
Full-time – 1 year contract position
Start Date: July 19, 2010       End Date: July 15, 2011
Salary: $40,000 to $55,000 range, commensurate with experience
AOE Arts Council (AOE) is a dynamic not-for-profit organization that works with the community to develop partnerships, audiences, information, and visibility for the arts. It supports Ottawa artists and arts organizations through programs, resources and services.
The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating communications activities and implementing communications plans for AOE and the ARTicipate Endowment Fund. The Communications Coordinator will also be required to work with the Shenkman Arts Centre resident arts partners on marketing initiatives and be able to solicit sponsors from the community to support communication activities. This position also provides support communications for membership, donor outreach, events, fundraisers, workshops and other programming projects.
Qualifications:

  • Education background in journalism, marketing, communications
  • Minimum 3 years work experience
  • Communication skills in both official languages (oral and written)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Capable of working independently and a commitment to a team environment


This position requires:

  • Familiarity with the cultural community and not-for-profit sector
  • Design and production skills with Adobe CS4 (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, PDF Writer)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience in implementing marketing strategies and advertising campaigns
  • Experience writing for the web, reports, funding proposals, media materials, marketing texts, articles for publications
  • Respond to media inquiries on behalf of AOE and ARTicipate, coordinate interviews, write media materials, assemble press kits
  • Ensuring the timely production of all publications, online materials, marketing and press and media activities in both official languages.
  • Coordinate the production of AOE’s annual report
  • Oversee the development and editing of promotional material as required to ensure brand and messages are delivered consistently
  • Maintain a website maintenance log, media database and communications contacts database
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to coordinate staff, meet deadlines and complete projects on budget
  • Experience working with suppliers to produce publications and communications tools
  • Tasks and duties as required in support of AOE’s mandate
  • Evening and weekend work is required from time to time

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Program Manager, the incumbent supports the decision– making process involving all aspects of the Funding and Award Section’s operations, including leading selected juries in collaboration with Cultural Planners. Plans and implements all aspects of 2 major civic artistic recognition events: the Karsh Award; and the Ottawa Book Awards (English Language) / Prix du Livre d’Ottawa (French Language) and manages all communications needs for the section.
Participates in the planning, coordination and implementation of funding programs by assembling, compiling, analyzing and interpreting operational, statistical and other relevant data; writing statistical reports and producing recommendations. Documents procedures and identifies changes in procedures /work methods or the automation of processes.
Statement of Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, Art History, Music, Theatre, Comparative Literature, Arts Administration, or related discipline.
Minimum of 4 years of related experience in arts administration or arts production, including progressively responsible or project management experience.
Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability, may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
Knowledge of:
Municipal, provincial and federal arts development policies, funding policies, data sources and practices
Local arts community practices in visual, performing and / or literary arts
Not for profit funding practices and governance structures
Contemporary arts, heritage and cultural issues in Canada
Research, surveying and data analysis
General knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures

Looking for filmmakers to teach in Africa – July 2010

An incredible opportunity for bilingual filmmakers!
The Burundi Film Center, a not-for-profit media development organization, is looking for Canadian filmmakers to teach (in French) this summer in Bujumbura, Burundi.
For 2 to 4 weeks in July, you’ll help train youth (aged 18-25) the basics of film theory and production, then help them bring their visions to life. Films from the first training session in 2007 played in over 50 international film festivals and received media coverage around the world.
All volunteers will have their accommodations taken care of while in Bujumbura, and a cook will be hired to cover most meals. The only major expense for filmmakers is airfare (approx. $2.000). A field trip to the Rwanda Film Festival in Kigali is also planned.

Le Centre d’artistes AXENÉO 7 de Gatineau est à la recherche d’un candidat ou d’une candidate pour combler un poste permanent, 30 heures/semaine, à la coordination  administrative et aux communications. Le titulaire de ce poste, conjointement avec le coordonnateur général et artistique, aura comme principale tâche la gestion administrative du Centre, ses communications globales ainsi que le soutien des actions prises par l’équipe en place.
Tâches principales :
Gestion administrative et financière du centre
Responsable des communications et du financement privé
Développement de publics.
Nous recherchons une personne intéressée par l’art contemporain qui fera preuve de leadership, sera pourvu d’un diplôme de premier cycle universitaire et aura cumulé au moins deux années d’expérience dans le domaine de la gestion des arts visuels. Une bonne connaissance des Conseils des arts et des organismes culturels ainsi que la maîtrise du français parlé et écrit et certaines compétences informatiques sont nécessaires. Une formation en administration du domaine des arts et une connaissance de l’anglais seront des atouts.
Rémunération du contrat : selon expérience et compétence ; lieu de travail : Gatineau ; horaire de travail : 30 heures par semaine.
