Nils Frahm, born in 1982, had an early introduction to music. During his childhood he was taught to play piano by Nahum Brodski – a student of the last scholar of Tschaikowski. It was through this that Nils began to immerse himself in the styles of the classical pianists before him as well as contemporary composers. In early 2008 he founded Durton Studio, where he has worked with likeminded musicians.

PARIKRAMA: a journey in Indian Dance, Yoga, Tabla,
Indian artistic and performing arts give form to profound philosophical ideas. According to Hindu philosophy the world was both created and destroyed by the dance of Shiva/Nataraja. The small hour glass shaped drum (damaru) in Nataraja’s right hand provides the rhythm for the creation of the universe, while the fire of destruction held in his left hand is unleashed during his cataclysmic dance of destruction. The semi-circular ring of fire (tiruvasi) which surrounds the dancing Shiva emphasises the cyclical nature of the universe.
At Arts Court Theatre on 15 and 16 April, Cultural Horizons presents a show based on both philosophical and environmental themes. Three Ottawa artists, Anjali, Basia Going and Blair Miller, collaborate to create a colourful and spiritually moving experience. Inspired by the philosophy of ancient Hindu texts (Upanishads and Shiva Puranas) and based around the cyclical structure of the cosmos, Anjali (dance), Basia (yoga), and Blair (tabla) explore the symbolism of Nataraja, performing in front of exquisite images and unique video of Hindu art, temples and the dynamic scenery of the Himalayas, where Shiva performs his eternal cosmic dance.
Anjali has studied in India with some of the most famous hereditary masters. In this performance, she includes dances presented from the traditional classical Indian repertoire using innovative choreography recently presented in New Delhi, India.  The show is an exploration of our relationship with the Earth and is set to the poetry of the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Blair Miller (tabla) highlights Anjali’s dance in the Kathak and Sufi Dance traditions. The evening concludes with a unique collaboration between Anjali and Basia, exploring the rich mythology of the God Shiva through dance and yoga. Basia (Adishesha Yoga) is one of Ottawa’s leading yoga teachers. Blair Miller has trained and performed in India. to critical acclaim.
