And because we love Bob Dylan . . .

Posted by April in music , dylan

(I don't know if you could tell)

We invite you to take this quiz over at CBC.  Though I always liked Dylan, there were a hanful of articles in celebration of his 65 birthday, including one on CBC, that really spurred my love for him. So, I guess that's two things I love: the CBC and Bob Dylan. You should check them out.

Wednesday Webcomic: In Bloom: The Alternate History of Kurt Cobain

Posted by Kevin in wednesday webcomic , music , comics , art

Every Wednesday (Cult)ure shares with you one of the internet's best webcomics.

Over at a little publication called The Villiage Voice, artist Ward Sutton has created an illustrated slide show depicting what would have happened had Kurt Cobain put down the shotgun and picked up the guitar.

It is kind of funny, kind of sad, and well worth checking out.

New Youtube pick

In December of 1957, CBS broadcast a program called "The Sound of Jazz." It featured an all-star lineup of jazz veterans including Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Ben Webster, Roy Eldridge, and Gerry Mulligan. This particular clip is of the singer Jimmy Rushing with Count Basie and his orchestra, playing a supremely swinging version of "I Left My Baby." Soloists include Webster, Basie on piano, trombonist Dickie Wells, Eldridge, and the legendary Coleman Hawkins.

New Dylan Album on the Way

Posted by Kevin in music , dylan

As you probably know by now, we here at (Cult)ure love us some Bob Dylan in a big way.

The new issue of Rollingstone reports that Dylan is set to release a new album in late April. While the comparisons to New Morning and Planet Waves (two of Dylan's mediocre 70's albums) and references to accordion on every-single-track don't exactly set my heart aflame with anticipation, the promise of a "surprising" follow up to Modern Times is most definitely intriguing, and any new album by Dylan is cause for celebration!

You can prepare for the release new album by revisiting some of (Cult)ure's Bob Dylan related articles:
