RuPaul's Drag Race: Snatch Game (You Gotta Know your Icons!)

Posted by Lauren in wendy williams , snooki , RuPaul's Drag Race , ru looks freaking fabulous , recap , reality television , puerto rico , michelle visage , lady gaga , know your icons , kenya michaels , jessica simpson , janelle monae , diana ross , chad michaels , beyonce , aretha

Snatch Game Contestants Michelle Visage, Jessica Simpson, Wendy Wiliams and CherLast week, Madame LaQueer was sent home, just as we learned she was sort of annoying. This week brings us a great RuPaul's Drag Race tradition in the form of Snatch Game, and you should all check this episode out.

The mini-challenge is called Beat the Cock, and the ladies compete in rooster and hen themed tasks. It is absurd, as usual. Phi Phi wins at pinning the rooster on Ru's face, Dida Ritz successfully blows a feather across a room, and Milan wins a ring toss game. Those three compete in a final challenge that is a variation of an egg and spoon race. I'll not go into more details. Phi Phi wins a phone call home, and Chad Michaels is sad because it is his anniversary with his partner. In a rare moment of humanity (at least on the show), Phi Phi gives up his call to Chad.

Ru introduces the Snatch Game challenge. Snatch Game is Ru's version of the 1970s classic game show Match Game. If you ever get the chance to see an episode of the original Match Game, check that stuff out. Gene Rayburn basically corrals 6 celebrities (who may or may not be drunk) and makes them answer dumb questions while horrified house wives play along. It is great stuff. Snatch Game is the drag version of this, with celebrity impressions.

RuPaul's Drag Race: You Gotta Know Style

Posted by Lauren in Wayne Brady impressed me , wars bring about hard times for all , ten gallon hat , sexcretary , RuPaul's Drag Race , recap , Manila is bugging me , hair dress

Last week, Carmen Carrera and her dull (yet hot) ass was sent shashaying away by Ru. This week, it is all about hair. First up, the girls get a mini-challenge where they have to create a headpiece out of stuff swiped from a gay beach. Does such a place really exist? I want to go. If it is anything like the gay discothèque (that is what the kids call it, I think), it is going to be awesome. All of the headdresses are ridiculous looking. Raja wins the mini challenge.

The full challenge for the week is to create three hairstyles: a classic look, a modern look (red carpet) and a fantasy hair extravaganza. The ladies get to work on their looks, and Ru drops in with a twist. The ladies also have to create a runway outfit made completely out of hair. Hilarious.

RuPaul's Drag Race: You Gotta be Committed

Posted by Lauren in RuPaul's Drag Race , Rupaul is gorgeous , recap machine , recap , drag names for straight ladies , don't be boring , die Heathers , Cher!

Last week, Ru didn’t eliminate anyone, which was sort of too bad. I felt that either Yara or Carmen could have gone and I wouldn’t be sad. Neither of them are going to win this thing, so keeping them around seems a bit silly.

The mini challenge this week is Rusical Chairs. The ladies have to finish the lyrics to the songs when the music stops, and the challenge will be done in high heels (which they are all super jazzed about). Carmen is trying to control the game by purposely being the last person standing who has to continue the song. Luckily, during the second song, she doesn’t know the lyrics, and is out. Manila is the eventual winner.

The main challenge for this week for the ladies to record a new song by Ru, and each will do so in a different style of music. They select musical styles and then get to the rehearsing. All of the ladies agree that Yara does not sound good. While rehearsing, she sounds like Gloria on Modern Family on her karaoke machine.

RuPaul’s Drag Race: You gotta "Work" your way into the spotlight

Posted by Lauren in RuPaul's Drag Race , Rupaul is gorgeous , Rita Rudner , recap , read , pour me another one , I'll bring Hello Dolly and Yentl

Stacy Layne Matthews left us last week, thank goodness. She wasn’t on par with the other ladies at all. This week we start with a mini challenge, that is sort of about “reading”. I think they are like roasting each other? People call Delta all sorts of fat, Raja gets called old in many different ways, thankfully someone comments on Yara’s crazy contacts, and mostly it is isn’t funny. I never really find roasting amusing, though, so I don’t know.

This leads into the challenge of the week, which is a stand up comedy performance. The ladies must create a drag look to go with the routines. They plan their shows, and they get the opportunity to show Rita Rudner some of their stuff before the show. She gives each of them feedback, but we don’t see much because they are saving their acts for later. Carmen has nothing prepared and doesn’t seem to understand that she needs to do so. As the challenge nears, Delta becomes increasingly worried about her performance.

Ru greets us on the mainstage looking gorgeous with straight hair. I usually prefer the curls, but this look is great. Guest judges this week are Rita Rudner and comedienne Arden Myrin (of Mad TV fame, I am told). They bring some live audience members into the mainstage area, and the show begins. Break down of each performance below!

RuPaul’s Drag Race Recap: You gotta bring the uniqueness

Posted by Lauren in uniqueness , The Way We Were is not very good , RuPaul's Drag Race , recap , medusa-chic , it's like I should be a guest judge , i want cake now , beat your face

Last week Stacy Layne finally developed an iota of personality, and it meant that she won. Delta was in the bottom two for her lackluster Cher (which was getting off easy, frankly--Cher knows teamsters). But it was the queen they call Mariah who was sent sashaying away. She will be missed, but only because Ru uses her name in reference to Paint Your Wagon.

Raja, Manila, Delta and Carmen have started a club where they call themselves Heather. It is lame. The mini challenge today is to have a naked picture taken. Delta Work is concerned because she doesn’t “even like to have sex naked”. The ladies are allowed to wear light make-up and nothing else. Alexis Mateo adorably tells us that she has been single for a really long time, and that America is going to find out why. Stacy is concerned about getting naked, but then she is given a sheet, so she isn’t naked at all. Raja has no problem being naked. Carmen gives us too much ass (as always). Shangela looks pretty, but has a serious man stomach (in that it is muscled). Yara Sofia is covered in tattoos that look like dirt smudges. Ok, later in the judging it seems like she has smeared paint on her face, so maybe the tattoos are an attempt at body paint. She has a smaller waist than 95% of women. Manila has trouble changing her face from picture to picture. Alexis struggles with nerves, and doesn’t have a great shot. Delta is also given the sheet (as was Alexis), and she goes for a goddess pose. Carmen Carrera takes the win. Finally, a challenge that played to her one strength.

Carmen gets to assign all of the ladies a type of cake, and they will create a couture look inspired by their cake. As Ru makes his rounds while the ladies are working, he announces that they will also have to create a cake that will be an accessory to the look. The cakes are already baked and they just have to ice them.

RuPaul's Drag Race: You gotta be larger than life

Last week India was sent sashaying away, and it wasn’t too upsetting. Some of the ladies seem to be hating on Manila for her Asian stereotype character last week, and their main argument seems to be that she is not Asian enough (?) to do this kind of satire. I didn’t find her character funny, but I think everyone has the right to make fun of everyone else.

The mini challenge will be the ladies playing a game that I sure hope is real. It is called “Shit RuPaul Says”. I want to go to there.

The ladies compete in 1 preliminary round each and then one final round. It is sort of a Wheel of Fortune type puzzle (but that part of where Pat has given the wheel a final spin). Apparently I need to work on my RuPaulisms, because I got zero of these. The answers are:

RuPaul's Drag Race: You gotta be the whole package!

Posted by Lauren in RuPaul's Drag Race , recap , prairie hair , I crack me up , Debbie Matenopoulos , 2nd wife

Last week, Mimi Imfurst became more annoying and was thankfully asked to sashay away from our televisions.

She Mail arrives and it is the Ms. Ru who is so divine telling the gals about their upcoming challenge. Apparently, a good queen is an informed queen. The mini challenge is to make a quick (very quick, 10 minutes) drag look for the red carpet. Two of the ladies go about creating fake vajays to flash to the camera. Is this really necessary? Basically, most of the ladies flash their bits, and grind on young studs. Stacy Layne appears to flash what is a real breast, and I am confused by it. Carmen Carrera and Stacy Layne are the top two and will be team captains for the next challenge, which is to shoot a morning show. Debbie Matenopoulos is a guest judge and will help the ladies find their way around a newsroom.

The teams are as follows:

RuPaul's Drag Race: You Gotta Be Authentic!

Posted by Lauren in you eat that chicken! , we would mostly watch musicals together , Susan who? , RuPaul's Drag Race , recap , Latoya Jackson , jumping rope in heels , authentic

Last week, Phoenix went home and there was drama because Mimi Imfurst thought that she was awesome, when really, she is just kind of annoying. Good times!

We start today with a mini challenge, which I am just going to sum up in a few lines because no one cares about them. The ladies have to create a fashion leotard out of only duct tape. The three plus sized queens team up together (Mimi, Delta and Stacy Layne). They barely get any tape over their big bones, and Delta and Stacy don’t really want to be with Mimi. Manila and Carmen win.

The real challenge this week is to create an inspirational workout video. The two winners pick teams.

Manila’s team is Raja, Mimi, Shangela, Stacy Layne, and Alexis. Highlights from their taping include Shangela being funny and not annoying, And Alexis being cute with  a lip-gloss inspired workout. Lowlights include Raja’s weird man voice and Mimi.

Rupaul’s Drag Race Recap: You gotta be memorable!

Boldly Tuck Where No Man Has Tucked Before

Welcome to week two! I get very excited when the opening credits role on this show because I know I am in for some zany, yet fabulous times. The ladies dwell on Venus D-lite’s exit and people mostly react by having it set in that the competition is on. The first shemail of the day comes in, and a gorgeous lady Ru tells us that the girls will have to “boldly tuck where no man has tucked before”. Immediately following this, the man Rupaul comes into the room and it is jarring, as always. The ladies are asked to pair up into teams and will have to communicate psychically to match answers about their partners clothing (that they can’t see).

Raja and Delta: I think these two are friends  from before because Raja tells us that Delta knows all about her (including how many cab drivers she has slept with). They get 1 out of three questions correct. Mariah and Phoenix are next--we only hear two of their questions, but they only get one correct. The remaining pairs are Carmen and someone who is unnamed, Stacy and Alexis, Shangela and India, and finally Mimi and Yara. The winners are Phoenix and Mariah. The next challenge is to shoot scenes for the movie Drag Queens in Outer Space and the two winners pick teams.

RuPaul’s Drag Race: You gotta be your own woman!

Raja's winning photoWell, have I got a treat for you. I will be recapping a reality competition like no other, RuPaul’s Drag Race. Airing on Logo, RuPaul’s Drag Race takes 13 fabulous drag queens and has them compete to be America’s next drag superstar. The show is part modeling competition, part sewing and costuming competition, and part personality competition. It is difficult for the written word to do this show justice, but I am going to try my best. I don’t know a lot about the drag world (although I recently catalogued Shims in Hollywood), but I encourage you to join me as we learn about what makes a fabulous drag queen.

First up, let’s meet our ladies.

Delta Work: Delta is a self-described “big girl” and wants to be the next RuPaul. Those are some fabulous pumps to fill.
