PATRICK MIKHAIL GALLERY is pleased to present CORONAE, an exhibition of new works by photo-based conceptual artist ANDREW WRIGHT.
In CORONAE, Andrew Wright continues his investigation into current and historical photographic technologies, and interrogates their use in describing the environments that comprise the world around us. This new series of large-scale works takes up and challenges conventional understandings and uses of photographic materials, procedures, and functions, and contributes to the contemporary discourse on photography. Wright’s lustrous and at times indeterminant images present paradoxical references to the macroscopic and microscopic, as well as photographic realms as disparate as interstellar space and the cellular. In part an homage to, and questioning of, the tradition of camera-less image production, the works function to challenge the ways we perceive and recognize shape and form— and, in a contemporary context, advance the notions associated with Gestalt theories of perception and visual organization. By employing multiple photographic technologies and optics, Wright’s CORONAE deconstructs and reconstructs images that sit on the edge of possibility, encouraging us to look at the overlooked, find energy in the
void, and feel the movement, time, and space of an intangible landscape.

See Yourself When All is New is a mix of large iconic images of often-unseen monuments, deceptively pastoral seeming landscapes and intimately scaled diptychs that tell a quieter more personal parallel narrative. All of these elements come together in an intersection of historical, personal and public stories.
The Red Wall Gallery is located in SPAO at 168 Dalhousie, at the corner of Bruyère, in the Byward Market.

The Great Crohn’s Crusade is a fund-raiser event organized and hosted by Ottawa Rickshaws to raise money for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) research and to raise awareness for such illnesses. It is officially endorsed by the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC) to which all funds will be donated. It will be Ottawa’s first and only major IBD fund-raiser. Crohn's Disease is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks the gastrointestinal tract causing inflammation. It causes serious chronic pain that can last for life. There is no cure and it can take a long period of time to put the disease into remission. 1 in every 160 Canadians has an IBD.
On March 12th, 2011 Ottawa Rickshaws will be hosting a silent auction from 7pm to 10 pm. The auction will take place at La Petite Mort Gallery where the public will be given the opportunity to bid on rickshaw runners. Bidders will be informed of each runner's strengths and weaknesses so they can bid accordingly. The winners of each bid will be permitted to participate in a rickshaw scavenger hunt across Ottawa. The auction event will also have food and drinks, a raffle, and a donation jar.

over the recent past. currys work sweeps through avant-garde of sound
poetry. In performance he is mesmerizing completely concentrated and
serving the flow of poetry as he punctuates the words with his every movement.

The Independent Filmmakers Co-operative of Ottawa Inc. (IFCO) announces its annual gala première screening of 11 new film works on Saturday, March 12th at the National Library & Archives of Canada at 7pm. IFCO's filmmakers are more than ever 'hooked’ on CELLULOID! They’re obsessed with creating emulsion image based magic! IFCO filmmakers do not necessarily conform to any one definitive cinematic genre or style; films are more so reflections of each filmmaker’s personal vision.
So, for those of you who can’t afford to attend the Genies on March 10th; drop by The National Library & Archives of Canada (395 Wellington @ Bay Street) on Saturday, March 12th at 7pm, and support some ‘homegrown’ talent. You’ll have a great opportunity to mix and mingle with the filmmakers at the after-party sponsored by THE EXCHANGE Pub + Restaurant (Rideau Centre, #50 Rideau Street - downstairs) and the Downtown Rideau Rideau Business Improvement Area (DRBIA). From March 12 to April 20, video art will have a place of honour at Centre d’artistes Voix Visuelle, as artist Suzanne Nerbonne will unveil a video series that document different
time spaces.
André is a video installation that includes five monitors placed one on top of the other, presenting one main character. He is filmed from head to toe, but shown in five different parts. The viewer’s perception of the character is thus desynchronized, the latter
evolving in lasting time.
As for Casier, it includes 12 monitors showing 12 teenagers filmed for 3 minutes in front of a locker. The artwork, projected repetitively, is seen as a complex mosaic and an original choreography, but the viewer is soon aware of the actors’ discomfort, because they are
confronted to the camera.
The opening of the exhibition will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 1 p.m. Centre d’artistes Voix Visuelle is located at 81 Beechwood Avenue, in Vanier. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday.

Chile's Atacama Desert is the driest place on earth. For astronomers, its high altitude and aridity provide the ideal atmosphere to peer into space and attempt to answer questions about the universe. Near the telescopes, a group of women sift through sand on a very different search – looking for bones and body parts of loved ones, the "disappeared" from the Pinochet dictatorship. Renowned ex-pat Chilean filmmaker Patricio Guzmán explores the paradoxes of these parallel quests in this meditative tour-de-force. Winner of the Prix Arte for Best Documentary at the European Film Awards.

“Fold Crumple Crush: The Art of El Anatsui” is a powerful portrait of the Ghanaian artist who is acclaimed internationally for his gorgeous and opulent wall hangings. These shimmering metallic “tapestries,” made entirely from discarded metal bottle-tops that are laboriously flattened and stitched together with copper wire, evoke the Ghanaian practice of weaving and assembling the vivid fabrics known as kente cloths.

Popular Ottawa artist Benjamin Rodger's new series of paintings are based on an influential poem written in both French and English called "L'homme invisible/The Invisible Man" by Patrice Desbiens. The works are based on an idea, a mood or a sentence segment and refer to a meeting that did not actually occur between the poet and the painter a few winters ago in Montreal.

"Arctic Kaleidoscope: The People, Wildlife & Ever-Changing Landscape" opens March 11 at Canadian Museum of Nature
Travel to a place of severe climate and isolation, but also one of unimaginable beauty and hope, in a new photography exhibition opening on March 11, 2011 at the Canadian Museum of Nature. Arctic Kaleidoscope: The People, Wildlife & Ever-Changing Landscape showcases more than 80 stunning photographs by award-winning Ottawa photographer, Michelle Valberg.
Arctic Kaleidoscope presents the glory, mystery and magic of icy landscapes, colossal icebergs, majestic mountains, breathtaking fjords, lush tundra, northern lights and, of course, the Inuit people.
Arctic Kaleidoscope will be on display at the Canadian Museum of Nature until May 29, 2011. The Museum is located at 240 McLeod Street in Ottawa.
